Wild Orchids & Summer Rain

Today it rained
and I thought of my grandmother

Melting warmth pouring out, as her love always did

Of the way
She stood looking out from
her next door window

As I ran under
The tropical water spout

Pure delight mixed in with mischief

Rain drops
on galvanized roofs

In my
Baby blue
bathing suit
Sprinkled with
pink, purple
and grey

I was ten

Wild orchids, summer rain
Life was good

[2000, on a cross town bus on 23rd street, in NYC]
